Birds of Prey (and The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a film directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hodson. It stars Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, Ella Jay Basco and Ewan McGregor. It was written by Christina Hodson. This movie with a DC character that came in February 2020 was a lot of fun. Margot Robbie plays the daring villain Harley Quinn, and the film is about how two heroes with similar goals reluctantly join forces to take down some of Gotham City’s baddies. Birds of Prey grossed an estimated $82 million but grossed $199.1 million at the worldwide box office. Review
Script
Birds of Prey is like Charlie’s Angels on steroids and with a lot more color. The story by Christina Hodson takes the best parts of both Marvel and DC. It cleverly cuts out the dark and boring parts (DC’s weakness) and mixes the rest with some exciting parts (Marvel’s strength), making it a feast for your inner eccentric. There isn’t much difference between what works and what doesn’t.
With some good funny relief, the story makes good use of Harley Quinn’s “craziness” and succeeds in doing so. Using guns that shoot out colorful sprinkles might be the most enjoyable thing I’ve seen lately. Even though this is a chick flick, it doesn’t feel like one because everyone is on the same page.
Star Performance
One of the best things about Birds of Prey is its colorful and interesting characters. Harley Quinn, played by the talented Margot Robbie, is a wild and unpredictable character who brings a lot of humor to the film. You won’t be able to take your eyes off her!
The Birds of Prey team is made up of strong and independent women who show us that girls can be heroes too. They support each other and work together to overcome challenges. It’s a great movie available on gomovies to see such strong female characters on the big screen!
Music And Direction
With Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) and now Cathy Yan, DC knows how to make movies about women that women can understand. This makes both of these movies much better than what they’ve been making lately. I wouldn’t be surprised if Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn worked together in the future (yes, I know there’s no such thing, but that’s just a wish). The best thing about Cathy is that she knows her lines and doesn’t try to change what the script says. Even though I really wanted her to do it, I think she should have skipped the unnecessary “scream” at the end (this is NOT a spoiler; you wouldn’t know this until you saw the movie).
Daniel Pemberton’s music for Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse is probably one of the best music pieces of 2018. When the punk parts are shown on the screen, he just does what needs to be done to make the punk-rock experience better. The most remembered song was a beautiful cover of Adona’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.” Other songs were also good.
Final Words
Birds of Prey is a movie full of action, thrilling sequences, and interesting people. Anyone who likes thrilling stories with strong heroes is a must-watch. Birds of Prey is a great movie to watch whether you like Harley Quinn or just want to lay home and have a good time.
