15 Most Powerful Weapons In Halo, Ranked

Halo has a lot of cool guns that are easy to remember, but some are better than others. This list ranks the best guns used by Master Chief.

The Master Chief is the most well-known figure in the Halo games, but players have learned a lot more about his weapons over the years. After all, Halo has some of the most famous guns in the history of video games. In fact, the legendary pistol from Halo: Combat Evolved has become a part of video game lore.

The core gunplay is a big reason why the Halo series is still going strong nearly 20 years after the first game came out as an Xbox launch title. Halo, on the other hand, has added a lot of guns over the years, and not all of them have been good. So, let’s take a look at the most powerful guns in Halo.

Skewer

The Skewer is a powerful weapon that was debuted in Halo: Infinite. It can kill players and vehicles in one shot. But there is a big problem with it. You can only fire one shot per clip before you have to reload, which takes a while. So, every time you fire it, you’re taking a chance. If you hit a target, you’ll hear a rewarding sound and see one of your opponents get very hurt. But if you miss, you’ll be totally defenceless while the gun reloads.

Plasma Pistol

Plasma Pistol
Game Appearances Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach

You might be shocked to see this weapon on a list of the best weapons in Halo. But the Plasma Pistol is a mainstay of Halo because it is the best gun for setting up. When an enemy’s shield is destroyed by a powerful shot, a quick headshot can be taken out of the way. It’s also a pretty good weapon against vehicles, since a fully charged blast temporarily stuns any car it hits, leaving the people inside stuck and open to attack.

Even though the Plasma Pistol isn’t very useful, it’s easy to see why the Covenant gives them to everyone.

Brute Shot

Brute Shot
Game Appearances Halo 2, Halo 3

The Brute Shot is one of the most underrated guns in Halo, but you can’t deny how powerful it is. It’s simply an easier-to-use Rail Gun, since its grenades can be fired quickly at enemies or vehicles that don’t see them coming.

But the bombs themselves aren’t that strong. Depending on the game, it can take anywhere from three to four shots to knock someone out. But the Brute Shot also has a powerful melee move that does more damage than all but the Plasma Sword and Gravity Hammer, which are also melee weapons. Any player with some skill should be afraid of a Brute Shot in their hands.

Fuel Rod Cannon

You can use the power of a Covenant Hunter with the Fuel Rod Cannon. This weapon is basically the UNSC Rocket Launcher for the Covenant. It can hold more ammunition than the Rocket Launcher, but the green plasma bursts it shoots aren’t always effective at killing enemies. They often bounce off of objects and only take down shields. But if you know how to aim it well and maybe even use plasma ricochets to your advantage, the Fuel Rod Cannon is a powerful tool.

Shock Rifle

The Shock Rifle is a good mix of a straight utility weapon and one that does a lot of damage. It’s like if a Plasma Pistol and a Sniper Rifle had a baby. If you hit an enemy in the head with a Shock Rifle, they can die right away, but even a miss will drain their shields.

In an online match in Halo: Infinite, if one of your team members stands far away and shoots at a group of enemies with a Shock Rifle, even if they don’t kill anyone outright, they’ll be doing a great job of lowering shields. And that doesn’t even take into account how great it feels to fire it.

Gravity Hammer

Gravity Hammer
Game Appearances Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach

The Gravity Hammer is one of the most powerful physical weapons. It was first seen in Halo 3. With just one hit, an opponent can fly across the map. It can kill in one hit, like the Energy Sword, but its ability to knock people back gives it some crowd clearing power. Plus points for how much fun it is to use to knock enemies off cliffs. When you consider that the Gravity Hammer can shred cars and, if you time it right, even deflect Frag Grenades, you can’t deny how powerful it is.

Needler

Needler
Game Appearances Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite, Halo 3:ODST, Halo: Reach

Over the years, the Needler has become one of the most talked-about guns in Halo. Most of the time, this is because you never know which form will be in a title. Except for maybe the Pistol, no other Halo weapon has had as many problems with how well it works as the Needler.

Even though fans don’t always agree, it’s usually agreed that the Needlers in Halo 3 and 4 were the most powerful, while those in Halo: CE and Reach were not as good. The Needler is a famous Halo weapon that, when used well, is one of the most powerful in the series. It is also very different and fun to use.

Plasma Grenade

Game Appearances Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach

In Halo, the guns used by the UNSC are better than the weapons used by the Covenant. But if there’s one thing that aliens do better than humans with small arms, it’s throwing bombs. The Plasma Grenade is one of the most fun and useful weapons in Halo and all of games in general. It can stick to enemies and kill them right away. There aren’t many things that feel better than getting a “stick” on another person. The Plasma Grenade can also destroy cars, which is a plus. Plasma Grenades are really amazing pieces of chaos.

SAW

SAW
Game Appearances Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians

If you have to choose between the traditional Assault Rifle and the SAW, you should always go with the SAW. The Promethean weapons in Halo 4 might not have been the best adds to the Halo arsenal, but the SAW might be the best all-around gun added in Tunnel Rush game.

The SAW does more damage than almost every other hand-held automatic weapon, and it’s amazing how accurate it is given how fast it shoots. The SAW is a dangerous weapon because it does a lot of damage and is pretty stable.

Energy Sword

Energy Sword
Game Appearances Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach

When Halo 2 came out, fans were excited to finally be able to use the Energy Swords, which Combat Evolved only hinted at. No longer were they scary weapons in the hands of Elites who were trying to catch you; Master Chief could also use them. The Energy Sword has sometimes seemed like a broken weapon because it has a long range that guarantees an instant kill. Even though some people may complain about how the Energy Sword is balanced, no one can argue that it is not one of the most powerful fighting weapons in the Halo series.

Shotgun

Shotgun
Game Appearances Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach

The Shotgun from the Halo games really is a beautiful thing. Even though the series has added a lot of close-quarters weapons over the years, we still find ourselves pulled to the O.G. Shotgun’s simple but effective killing power. With its large clip, good rate of fire, and high damage at close range, a skilled Halo player can quickly take out the competition in smaller map skirmishes.

Even though you probably won’t find it very useful on a big map like Valhalla, the Shotgun is one of the best guns in Halo history almost everywhere else.

Rocket Launcher

Rocket Launcher
Game Appearances Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach

Don’t fix something that isn’t broken. Over the course of the series, the UNSC’s Rocket Launcher has changed a few times, but it has always done the same basic job of blowing things up well. The Rocket Launcher in Halo has the same pros and cons as similar weapons in other games. In particular, it works well for battles in the open, especially when cars are involved.

But it isn’t very useful in tight spaces, since firing one of these things down a small hallway is a good way to blow yourself up. It’s also hard to load again. Still, you’re going to grab one of these if you see one if you’re in a fight, because the Rocket Launcher’s power is just too great to pass up.

Sniper Rifle

Sniper Rifle
Game Appearances Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach

The Sniper Rifle is Halo’s most dangerous weapon when used by the right person. Two shots to the body or one shot to the head will kill. The Sniper Rifle is a standard power weapon in Halo multiplayer because it has the best range of any weapon. If you’ve played Halo or another professional shooter for a long time, you know that some players can get sniper kills no matter what. We’ve all been no-scoped by a kid with magic hands, and as frustrating as it can be, you have to respect pure skill. In short, the Sniper Rifle has always been and will continue to be one of the most powerful guns in Halo.

Magnum Pistol

Magnum Pistol
Game Appearances Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach

Even though its power has gone down a lot since it was first introduced in Halo: Combat Evolved, the Magnum Pistol is still worth mentioning because it was so powerful in the first game. It was as powerful as a million shotguns and as far-reaching as 100 sniper weapons. Even though these are exaggerated, they show how powerful the Magnum is in Combat Evolved. If you ever play a standard CE match, the only weapon you’ll ever need is the Magnum.

Battle Rifle

Battle Rifle
Game Appearances Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite

The Battle Rifle is one of the most powerful weapons in Halo because it can be used in so many different ways. Why? Well, fighting in Halo has always required a fair amount of strategy, since it usually takes more than one shot to kill another person. Even though the Battle Rifle doesn’t kill instantly, it gives you a good chance in almost every fight.

Since it was first presented in Halo 2, players have loved the Battle Rifle’s satisfying three-round burst and its ability to work at any distance. The Battle Rifle is the most powerful weapon in Halo because it can be used over and over again.
